Zero Energy Challenge Winning House and Mitsubishi's New Electric Car
Featuring the Mitsubishi Imiev Electric Car from Schaller!
April 14, 2012 --- Voluntown, Connecticut was the site of a comprehensive solar house tour and seminar. The owners, as well as green recycling, insulation, green car experts, geothermal and solar experts, will spoke about clean energy and provide relevant literature.
The 2800-square foot passive solar cape has superior insulation; a geothermal heating and cooling system; a leased 10.8 kW photovoltaic solar electric system; and a heat recovery ventilation system. A Jotul wood stove backed up by a ventless propane gas log; irrigation provided by an old well, rain gutters and a spring; Energy Star rated windows, appliances and lighting and water-conserving fixtures make this a very “smart” house.
The house was built economically using reclaimed wood, and the beautiful site is on preserved agricultural land. There are opportunities to hike in nearby Patchaug State Forest headquarters, with its old cedars and huge rhododendrons. The Voluntown Peace Trust house was also on the tour.
Schaller Mitsubishi was present and brought along the Mitsubishi iMiEV, a 100% electric vehicle. The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy has recognized this car as The Greenest Vehicle of 2012. There was a turnout of approximately 120 people. Chris Wodarski, Mitsubishi i-miev certified Sales Consultant, was on hand on behalf of Schaller to speak to the group and provide specific information on the i-miev.
The tour/seminar was sponsored by People’s Action for Clean Energy (PACE) in conjunction with the Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA), the CT Chapter of the Sierra Club and the North Stonington Citizens Land Alliance. Connecticut Light and Power will also be represented.
